FREQUENTLY ASKED ?S
Can parents sit in on the prep class?
We strongly encourage parents to wait outside the auditorium so that students can focus on their performances and on receiving directions from our staff. This is a class, not a recital. Although you may want to watch your child, other students may feel nervous that there are so many people in the class. We want to create a classroom environment, not a recital simulation. If your student is nervous and does not want to go in without you, we will end the class early and let you and your student enter privately at the end for a sound check. We will also have more detailed information that day via QR code which you can browse while the performances are taking place.
My child is very nervous and would like to wait until everyone performs, is that ok?
We understand that some students will be nervous and that is totally understandable! We will do everything we can to make them feel comfortable and ready to perform. That includes waiting until the end.
Why is the prep class not the day before the recital or on the same day?
Preparation ensures the best performance. We also want to give enough time for the teacher to work with the student without rushing the process. Performers will also benefit from the weeks that follow the prep class to work with their teachers on any improvements. In a few rare instances, it gives time for the student makes changes if needed - like switching to a different vocal track, etc.
One of the main benefits of doing a group prep class is that students can get motivated by watching others. It is also a great place for students and parents to meet other Roos families!
Will the kids that were in the prep class be the same students that will perform on the actual recital day?
The timing of your prep class will be different from the session on the recital day. The prep class slots are first come first serve. The recital sessions are thoughtfully planned out - with beginners going early, variety of different instruments per session, and so forth. Both the prep classes and recitals will generally each be an hour long. You can let us know if you have any restrictions on a prep session day or recital day and we will do our best to accommodate your request.
Can my child perform a second time during the prep class?
Every student will have one opportunity to perform. It is a 1 hour class and everyone is allotted one performance.
